Why did you choose Amherst? “I chose Amherst College because of the rare combination of elite academics and athletics, and the incredible coaching staff and team atmosphere.”

2016 HS season highlights/outlook for 2017: “This 2016 season was our most successful season in 3 years. We made it to the state quarterfinals and ended the season ranked #8 in the Lone Star state. I’m incredibly proud of our progress as a team on and off the field, and next we are coming back better and stronger than ever. Our best chance to make a run for the state title will be the 2017 season.”

Thank You: “I would like to thank God for getting me to where I am today, without him I would be nothing. I would like to thank my family for sacrificing everything to help make my dream come true and for always being there for me.

“I would like to thank my High School Coach, Coach Donald, for pushing me to be exceptional on and off the field, and also for switching me from a short-stick middie to a long-stick middie weeks before the 2015 season began.

“I would like to thank my trainer, Kevin Dilworth, for challenging me to lift more and be faster every single time we train. His guidance and words of wisdom every time we talk have made me and will continue to make me be the best student-athlete that I can be.

“I would like to thank my Club Coach, Coach Surran for providing me with outstanding opportunities to compete with Iron Horse Lacrosse, gaining exposure and recognition during my summer circuits.

“Lastly, I would like to thank all of my teammates and everyone else who has helped me along my journey.”

C2C Dallas Breaks Through

The C2C Dallas (Texas) U15 team struggled through pool play, failing to win a game and settling for the No. 14 seed. But the Texans more than made up for it by knocking off third-seeded Team 180 2019 (Colo.), 11-8, in a round-of-16 game before a spirited crowd. The victory sent C2C Dallas into the quarterfinals for the first time ever.

C2C Dallas nearly reached the semifinals. The Texans, behind six goals from Anna Winkeler and three goals and four assists from Jay Browne, stormed back from an 8-3 second-half deficit to take a 10-8 lead against sixth-seeded Integrity 2019 (Md.).

But a yellow card against Catherine Blaylock with 1:54 to play would prove costly. The Marylanders tied the game at 10 and won it when Kathleen Sullivan converted a pretty pass inside from Gabriela Lavin with :28 left.

“I love the fight in this team,” C2C coach Molly Ford, who played at Georgetown, said. “Dallas is starting to get engulfed with lacrosse, with talent and with athletes; we just need to catch up to the players in the East in terms of skills.”

C2C Dallas lost to Integrity during pool play yesterday, 14-4, but turned the tables by winning more draw controls and playing with more confidence, Ford said.

Marathon U13 Semifinal

The Yellow Jackets (N.Y.) and 3d (Colo.) represent two of the better known club programs across country, and their U13 teams met in a semifinal that begs for more matchups as the players get older.

Tied at 6 after regulation, each team scored once in the full six-minute overtime. Top-seeded Yellow Jackets 2021 Blue had its chances throughout the extra sessions, but Caridad Nugent made eight of her 15 saves after regulation ended to keep hope alive for fourth-seeded 3d Select National.

Finally, after 61:25 of lacrosse, Abigail Cotraro scored her fourth goal of the game to deliver 3d the thrilling 8-7 victory.

Upset Bug Both Ways

Fifth-seeded Team 180 2021 (Colo.) saw its 13th-seeded 2020 team eliminated in the U14 first round by fourth-seeded Yellow Jackets 2020 Gold (N.Y.) and later watched its third-seeded 2019 team stunned by 14th-seeded C2C Dallas (Texas) in the U15 first round. Team 180 2021 atoned for the losses by edging Yellow Jackets 2020 Gold, 9-8, in a dramatic U14 quarterfinal.

Samantha Filippi scored four goals in the first half to pace the Jackets, but two apiece from Jessie Bakes and Lauren Rismani helped the Coloradoans forge a 5-5 halftime tie. The spread in the second half never eclipsed one goal, and Katharine Merrifield tied the game at 9 with her second goal of the game for Team 180 2021.

With 32 seconds left, Mandy Brockamp scored unassisted to send Team 180 2021 into the final four with the 10-9 triumph.

The eighth annual US Lacrosse National Championships wrapped up last Sunday at Grand Park with Fellowship of Christian Athletes (Md.) National taking the boys’ division title. FCA won its fourth gold medal with a 10-4 defeat of Colorado.

Earlier in the girls’ division, the Yellow Jackets (N.Y.) won their third straight U15 national championship, 7-4 over Liberty (N.Y.), and took home the gold in the U14 and U13 tournaments as well.

A look at the U15 all-tournament teams and more notes from #USLaxChamps to put a wrap on the summer tournament season.

Colorado Boys, C2C Dallas (Texas) Girls Break Out

The Colorado boys struggled through pool play. They edged rival 3d Select National (Colo.), on which there’s some roster crossover in other tournaments, 6-5 to start the event. Colorado then endured a 12-2 loss to FCA National (Md.) and a 13-9 loss to the Nati Lax Bros (Ohio/Ky.), in a game that NLB controlled for most of the way.

But Colorado made an impressive run as the six seed in the bracket. The Coloradoans denied third-seeded 3d revenge, eliminating 3d, 9-8, on Josh Yago’s goal 2:04 into overtime. They then dismantled second-seeded NLB in the semifinals with surprising ease, 16-6.

“We valued the ball more and played patiently and smartly,” Colorado coach Kevin O’Brien said after the semifinal. “The schedule we got — we were battle tested. I think that helped us today.”

The win sent Colorado into its first final. Colorado previously reached the semifinals in 2014.

On the girls’ side, C2C Dallas likewise made some history in its third appearance in the tournament. C2C Dallas got the 14 seed after falling in pool play to Yellow Jackets 2019 Gold (N.Y.), Top Guns Black (N.Y.) and Integrity 2019 (Md.).

The Texans stunned third seeded Team 180 2019 (Colo.) in the first round, 11-8, to draw a rematch with sixth-seeded Integrity 2019 in the quarterfinals.

“We weren’t working as well together as a team [early on], but we came into the Team 180 game with a lot of enthusiasm, and that made all the difference,” midfielder Jordan Aikman said. “Our team really grew. That was really cool to see us play lacrosse the way we know how to play.”

In the quarterfinal, attacker Anna Winkeler could not be stopped, scoring six goals and handing out an assist for C2C Dallas. Integrity took an 8-3 early in the second half, but the Texans rallied to score seven straight goals for a 10-8 lead in the closing minutes. A yellow card proved costly, however, as Integrity scored three times in the last 1:46 to escape, 11-10.

The loss did not diminish the team’s performance for coach Molly Ford, a Baltimore native.

“I love the fight in this team,” said Ford, who played at Georgetown. “Dallas is starting to get engulfed with lacrosse, with talent and with athletes; we just need to catch up to the players in the East in terms of skills.”

Indeed, C2C Dallas has improved in each of its three appearances under Ford. The Texans lost in the first round in 2014, won their first-round game last year to get to the round of 16, and won their round-of-16 game this year to reach their first quarterfinal.

An Aikman on the C2C Dallas team? Yes, it’s his daughter

NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman, who led the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl championships, supported his daughter, Jordan, on the sidelines among other team parents and family members.

Troy Aikman was gracious throughout the three days at Grand Park, pausing for photos with coaches and families of other teams.

“It’s great to be a father and watch and not get into all the nuances of the game; to just support her and see how she does,” Aikman said after C2C Dallas’ narrow loss to Integrity in the quarterfinals.

Aikman had not been exposed to lacrosse until Jordan began playing in third grade. While his knowledge of the sport has grown, he limits his advice to Jordan and her sister, Ally, regardless of the sport in which they participate.

“There’s three things they can do each and every game,” Aikman said. “Listen to their coach. Give great effort. And be a good sport. If they do those things, I’m pretty happy. And they always do.”
Winning counsel from a true champion.

Next Year’s Site

The US Lacrosse Nationals will feature age divisions for 15U (commonly associated with the high school class of 2020), 14U and 13U. The girls’ tournament is set for July 28-30, 2017, in Richmond, Va. The boys’ tournament site and dates are expected to be confirmed soon. Team registration is expected to open in August.

BANTAM PROGRAM 2026-24:
We classify current 3rd & 4th graders as our Bantam Intro Program. These players are just starting to learn the game. Learning the basics is essential to a player’s early development. At this age group, our teams are designed to teach the basic fundamentals and team concepts of lacrosse. Included in your fee will be in-town games that maximize player participation, and most importantly, make the experience fun.

YOUTH PROGRAM 2023, 2022, 2021 & 2020:
Players who are current 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th graders participate in our Youth Program. The main goals of the Youth Program are to bring players from multiple towns together to compete against better competition, while receiving high-end instruction from our coaching staff. Our curriculum for the Youth Program includes standard practice techniques as well as integrated games and competitions to foster a healthy, fun, and competitive environment where players can improve their skills while enjoying making new friends.

HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM 2019, 2018 & 2017:
Players who are currently in their freshmen through junior year participate on our High School Program. The two main goals of the High School Program are to continue individual and team development, and to assist players and their families through the college recruiting process. Players attend specific training, meetings and seminars to accomplish these goals.

Our High School Teams are coached by former World Team players, MLL/NLL professional lacrosse players, former college lacrosse coaches, and current high school coaches. We take the continuous development of our HS players very seriously. We lead our teams through college level practices/clinics/camps to ensure our players do not plateau in high school. During these practices, our players receive instruction not only from the coaches of their team, but from other C2C Coaches, guest coaches and Directors.

Our High School Teams attend the top recruiting events in the country. Each team attends two recruiting events in the Fall (October & November) and three or four recruiting events in the Summer (June & July). We provide the best possible exposure of any club team in our area and are among the best in the country. In addition to the events our teams attend, our coaches and Directors have personal relationships with coaches at many schools across the Division I, II, and III levels. Our Directors speak often with college coaches throughout the year. High school team members and their families have the opportunity to meet with C2C Directors to go through a personalized in-home meeting on the recruiting process.
